Knee Problems Knee problems are another common injury outside of back pain. Knee issues arise as a result of: Overuse of the knee joint Injury Arthritic changes in the joint Symptoms of knee injuries include: moderate to severe pain, swelling, and dysfunction of the knee. Your chiropractor will perform a physical examination to identify the cause of knee pain. Additional testing such as x-rays, blood work and blood pressure measurement of the leg may be needed to pinpoint the source of pain. If you are diagnosed with overuse of the knee joint, the treatment goal will be to reestablish balance of the muscles, restore movement and correct any misalignments. A brace can be used to reestablish alignment in the patella and knee joint. If you have knee problems as a result of injury, then Dr. Lukonaitis may recommend medication and/or physical therapy along with healthy lifestyle changes to prevent future occurrences. Knee pain as a result of arthritic changes in the joint is generally treated with anti-inflammatory medications along with lifestyle changes to reduce pain.
